First Attempt at Picture Smocking!

It's been a while since I've blogged. A lot has happened in the last year. We sold our townhome, moved in with family and will be closing on our house in the next month. Hence, the reason I haven't written in a while. It a little hard to sew when all of your sewing supplies are packed away.

I've always wanted to learn to smock. My sister and I grew up wearing pretty dresses that were smocked by my grandmother and mother and I just knew that I wanted to learn how to smock before having children. My LQS also has smocking classes, and I've been waiting for a year to find a time that corresponded to a time that I could attend after work. In March, that finally happened. We learned how to do geometric smocking, but I really wanted to do picture smocking so I found this crab plate and got started.

I'm really happy how this turned out. There are a lot of firsts in this project. It's my first time smocking, adding buttonholes, sewing in a lining, and making a jon-jon. It's not perfect, but who is really going to notice on a one year old that is in constant motion!?!

Here is a close-up of the picture smocking:

This was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I can't wait to make more!
